Fredpink’s new album “And The River Flows” was recorded at Bear Creek, and Lake Union recording studios in Woodinville, and Seattle Washington
We utilized Bear Creek, and whiz-dude engineer Taylor Carroll for live recording the rhythm, and horn sections, and some vocal harmonies in the studio’s big rooms.  Lake Union Studio with the album’s coproducer/engineer David Loy covered most of the instrumental overdubs, strings, acoustic guitar, and final vocals.  Most of the songs recorded at Bear Creek had “scratch vocal” tracks (vocals tracks usually not intended for the final mix, but nevertheless sung live, and recorded, to let the rhythm section know where they’re at in a given song, as well as highlight areas of intensity, and/or dynamics.  But occasionally there is an exception, and in this case on “Daze of Oakland” both David, and Taylor, felt that Gordy delivered his scratch vocal with excitement, and just the right amount of anger on “Imagine That.”  Gordy wrote those songs, and on “Daze” he also wrote the main horn hook that repeats throughout the song.  Saxophonist Cliff Colon wrote the horn arrangement, and we brought in two more “A l.isters”  Rich Cole on tenor, and baritone saxes, and Andy Amdahl on trumpet.   Normally, vocals are sung from an isolation booth, but the day of the “Daze Of Oakland” session we opted to have Gordy sing in the control room, just behind the engineer, and console, rather than take the time to set up a vocal booth.  Gordy had never heard the song with horns, and in his own words he was “SUPER STOKED!!!!”.   So that explained the excitement in his scratch vocal on Daze Of Oakland.  “Imagine That”…..that’s an entirely different story.
